Tehila had a great day today. In our role to build the capacity of the Social Workers Association of Zambia, we facilitated an ‘Introduction to Child Protection’ seminar for around 80 social work students from different learning institutions mainly within Lusaka.

Our aim was to equip students with essential knowledge on how to keep children safe, encouraging them to apply theory into practice. We also wanted to increase the profile and membership of SWAZ, an organisation that is key in strengthening the protection of children in Zambia.

We are pleased to announce that over 50 new members joined this growing association today, an association that is protecting and regulating social work practice and training in Zambia. Furthermore, all the students engaged and participated in the seminar and their feedback was positive.

My highlight of the training was the guest speaker. You may remember me blogging about Priscilla who is an adult survivor of child sexual abuse, which she suffered at the hands of her biological father throughout her childhood.

We have been developing a good relationship with Priscilla since I read her book last year and today we decided to invite her to speak at the SWAZ event.

She was trully an inspiration and so courageous. The students really listened and felt inspired by her story. She effectively motivated them to understand the importance of meaningfully listening to children and noticing the signs childen give when they are being abused.  We are excited by this initial piece of work with Priscilla and look forward to further partnership in the future.

So just to leave you with a few photos….
